This book is an English translation of Die Banater Schwaben by Nikolaus Engelmann, first printed in German in 1961. This English translation, is now in its second printing. It describes the history and culture of the German settlements in the Banat, with minimal mention of the events following WWII. It was one of the first such books about the Banat heritage to appear in English.   It was originally addressed to the descendants of the Banat Germans who settled in North Dakota, whose knowledge of their background was minimal and whose interest was high.

This book is about the Banat village of Ujjozseffalva in Romania, known colloquially as Josefalva. It is a collection of interviews in German and the Schowisch dialect that describe the history of the village, founded in 1882, and it describes different experiences of the villagers during the Hungarian period and the emigration of villagers to the U.S. and North Dakota at the turn of the 20th century. The book contains the German and Schwowisch text on the left halve of each page and the English translation on the right halve.

This book is an English translation of "Vier Jahre Meines Lebens: Als Maedchen im Hungerlager Rudolfsgnad" by Maria Horwath. It is the experiences of a 14-year old Banat girl in the infamous Rudolfsgnad starvation camp. It illustrates the sense of responsibility as part of the culture of even relatively Banat children even under extremely adverse circumstances. The book is nicely illustrated by the Donauschwab artist, Susanna Tschurtz.

North Dakota Pioneer from the Banat

This book is a English description of the pioneer settlement of Southwestern North Dakota by immigrants from the Banat, beginning just before the start of the 20th century. The book lists the names and the villages of origin of the pioneer families. It also includes maps showing the homestead locations and land holdings as of around 1916. The book describes the history of the Banat people only briefly but it shows photographs of the early pioneer homes, showing their similarity to the architecture of homes in the Banat villages.
